I’m Having a Show!
So much has happened during these winter months that an update is long overdue but time is short so I am going to touch upon the things you need to know.
First, I am having a solo show!
I was really fortunate to lock in a month at White Whale Craft Ales for their artist spotlight. I have been applying to group shows left and right and was thrilled to be given an opportunity to showcase my work on it’s own and not in a group setting. I am really looking forward to everything I am going to learn from this opportunity. From marketing the show, hanging and labeling all the work, pricing for a non-traditional market and all the things I don’t even know I am about to learn. I have made the decision to show a sampling of all my works and the set up of the space allows me to break my work into three distinct spaces. I will have a section for my portrait work, my Savannah scenes and my still life objects. Not only will I be looking to clear out some of my older portrait work, I am going to be displaying some of my new paintings based on my marker sketches. It is sometimes difficult to get a feel for what works and what doesn’t work when you are the only person to see your work in person and I have a feeling that I will get a lot of valuable information about what people enjoy about my work and what direction I may want to head in the future.
Come check out the show at the opening reception March 3 from 6-9 PM and for the rest of the month of March at White Whale Craft Ales on 1207 Bull St. Savannah, GA.
Another exciting addition to my weekly routine has been that I have been hired as a live painter performing Tuesday nights at the bar by The Fleeting in the Thompson Hotel over at the Eastern Wharf. I paint from 6-9 PM and have completed two larger paintings in gouache so far. I have been given creative control to paint what I enjoy and have also been able to set up a display of prints and originals for sale. It has been awesome to get the chance to paint a bar from life rather than by photo and I have met so many supportive people. Including Ellen Xiang who is an abstract painter here in Savannah. I have been able to get to know Ellen better over the last couple weeks after she came in to see me perform and I think it has been inspiring for me to get a chance to talk with someone whose work is so different from my own; my brain just doesn’t work that way so it’s interesting to hear about her inspiration. You can see her work in person at Gallery 10 in City Market.
Come by and introduce yourself to me on Tuesdays from 6-9 PM at The Thompson Hotel, 201 Port St. Savannah, GA.
