More time for grinding

I have always had the mind-set that September-May were for work and summer was for play. My life has revolved around the school year for as long back as I can remember and between coaching and teaching, that school year schedule we all grew up with followed me into my adult life. When I stepped away from my teaching job at the end of last school year, I gave myself the summer off. Knowing I would have June and July for myself was the light at the end of the tunnel that kept me grinding.

Once August began so did my serious jump into investing into my own art. I have dived in and am jumping at every opportunity that comes my way; I am applying, I am submitting, I am creating, I am learning, I am GRINDING. I keep finding myself surprised at the end of the day how quickly is passes, how much there is to do, and how much I have gotten done. It’s refreshing to be working hard for myself, and knowing all my efforts are in investment in myself, and have a tangible rewards. So on that note… here is what’s new!

Print drop! Head to my Etsy to order one of 5 different prints. I made a few test samples of prints to try out different papers to see what I want for a bigger order and ordered a few extra of each. While I am really happy with how they all came out, by far the giclee print lives up to the giclee hype. The print quality looks like the actual painting and while they cost more to produce, it seems hard to ignore just how superior the quality is. My second favorite was the print on archival canvas paper. The texture of the paper mimics the texture of the cold press watercolor paper I like to paint on, so it compliments the painting well and makes it look like a real painting. I also tried an archival velvet paper and a smooth bright white archival paper where the colors look great and they capture the paintings accurately but on smooth paper. My least favorite was the basic archival matte paper which I have immediately marked at sale pricing because I don’t feel like the print really captured the painting to my standard. The images on my Etsy are actual scans of the prints, not the original paintings to help you get an accurate idea of what the print looks like.

Upcoming Show! I am really excited to share that I have been accepted into the “Rage Becomes Her” show at The Bakery in Atlanta. My paintings Bans Off My Body and Hair Control were accepted for the show that will run September 10th and 11th. If you are in the Atlanta area please stop by and say hi- I plan to be there for an hour or two both days. Stay tuned on Instagram for more details about the show as we get closer to the date.

Fair season is here! One of my big goals for myself this year was to start doing fairs so I have started to apply to local ones. I am really thrilled to be participating in The Gordonston Art Fair here in Savannah on October 8th. In addition, I will also be participating as an art vendor at the Delirium Ultra Race up in Beaufort, SC on October 29th. More details on that one to come soon.

I hope to see you at an upcoming fair or show! Lot’s more grinding to do so I am off for now, but thanks for the support!
